Why Safety Monitoring Matters
Students often turn to the internet when they're struggling. Search queries can reveal signs of depression, self-harm ideation, cyberbullying, substance abuse, and potential violence — often before adults are aware of the situation.
The Data
1 in 3 high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. Early detection through search monitoring has been credited with saving lives in school districts across the country.
Detection Categories
Self-Harm
Searches related to suicide, self-injury, cutting, eating disorders, and hopelessness. Highest severity — immediate alert.
Cyberbullying
Aggressive language patterns, harassment searches, doxxing attempts, and social exclusion indicators.
Violence
Searches about weapons, school violence, threats, and violent ideation. Triggers immediate administrative alert.
Substance Abuse
Drug-related searches, alcohol procurement, vaping, and substance information beyond educational context.
How KyberPulse Works
Content Analysis
Every search query and URL is analyzed against our safety keyword database. Machine learning reduces false positives by understanding context.
Severity Scoring
Each detected event receives a severity score (low, medium, high, critical). Multiple low-severity signals can trigger an escalation.
Instant Alerts
Critical alerts are sent immediately via email, webhook, and in-dashboard notifications. Medium alerts are batched in daily digests.
Counselor Review
Designated safety contacts receive alerts with full context — the search query, timestamp, student identity, and recommended actions.
Privacy & FERPA Compliance
KyberPulse is designed with student privacy at its core:
Only safety-related keywords trigger alerts — general browsing is not flagged
Alerts are sent only to designated safety contacts, not all staff
Student data is encrypted at rest and in transit
Data retention follows your district's FERPA-compliant data retention policy
Parents can request access to their child's safety alerts through the Parent Portal
All monitoring is disclosed in your Internet safety policy (CIPA requirement)
